Mr. Gilbert pointed out that if the parolee had offensive mannerisms, he would have to make a choice which was more important to him the job or his idiosyncracies.
When asked if it was wise to refer to a record or a less than honorable discharge when seeking employment, Mr. Gilbert advised, "Try to be vague without being untruthful." For example, in trying to place an individual, he might say that this person has had an emotional problem, but has been rehabilitated to a great extent.
He said he always found this to be a dilemma in the se dealings, since the stigma attached to the sex offender per se could keep the person from getting the job.
A NEW BOOK ON 'SEX'
Thane Walker, psychoanalyst and Dean of The Prosperos Academy in Honolulu, announced at the banquet his present proJect, writing of a new book dealing with the subject of sex, He said that he had been looking forward to doing this for a number of years because he felt that most books on the subject of sex, and especially those dealing with homosexuality, were, for the most part, misleading and contradictory in themselves.
Here Thane has been a practicing analyst for many years and has counselled thousands who in one way or another are troubled with sex problems. So far, this year, his files contain the case histories of 225 young men, most of whom are in the armed services, stationed in Honolulu. Only 25 of these young people were aware of their homosexual tendencies, if such were the case. Often times, only under the -“influence of alcohol had they been able to admit such de-
sires to themselves. The problem in therapy, Thane admitted, was to discover whether the case was the one of trus homosexuality or a pseudo state. It remains important to the patient that he become acquainted with his inner drives and recognize them, even though they be on the fringe area of homosexuality.
